It rained torrentially here today and we were enveloped in the fog that is one of Montauk's favorite weather patterns. So it seemed like a good day to stay in and answer a couple of questions that some of my blog posts have raised.
Come Light the Menorah
"But did the vodka last eight days and eight nights?"
Yes, it did Susan.
Apparently You Can Go Home Again
"...enjoyed your blog. But what I really wanted to know was whether there was still a motel on the site of the Atlantic Terrace, and, if so, what shape it's in now."
It is largely blocking my view of the ocean as I type, Joan. The Atlantic Terrace, as most of you know, was built and run by my family, for many years. They sold it, it went condo, then reverted back to a motel, and is still going strong. I found an old brochure, which is reproduced in part here, that will give you some idea of the rates back in the day.
At the height of the season, you could have stayed in an oceanfront room for a week for about half the daily rate today at places like Sole and Surf Lodge. And that included "the popular Atlantic Terrace breakfast," which featured juice, sweet rolls and "Silex brewed coffee."
