Red Sculpture, Green Gift, White Potatoes

A couple of postscripts on the Parrish...

John Chamberlin at the Parrish
My "roots" are in the Hamptons, so the idea of giving a green gift that also supports the arts on the East End is very appealing to me. For as little as $30, you can honor someone at Chanukah or Christmas with a tree that will be planted at the new Parrish Art Museum. They'll acknowledge the gift with a card to the recipient, whose name will be added to a brochure in the lobby. All you have to do to take part in the "Trees @ The Parrish" program is call Eliza Rand at 631-283-2118, ext. 124 or email her at rande@parrishart.org. Btw, $30 gets you a hybrid poplar. The trees range from $30 to $2,225, so if you have someone on your list who's more majestic oak, not sure this is the gift idea for you.

Although we didn't eat in the Cafe, since we were holding out for a wine tasting and cheese platter at Wolffer, I love that the menu includes a nod to the potato farms that are so much a part of the history of the area with its "Twice Baked Long Island Potato Swirled with Local Organic Sweet Potato and Sour Cream." "Want some Maple Cured Bacon with that Spud?" You can get that too.

And speaking of spuds...
This new vodka may be produced in Poland, but it has Long Island written all over it.
