Random Observations on a Saturday Morning

It's not a beach day, but I did want to post this picture of a new body of water that extends from the Atlantic Terrace west for almost a mile, severing the beach in two. Locals are calling it the Great Divide.

After a long walk, we're thinking brunch. Fortunately, Montauk is not without its resources. Bliss Kitchen, which debuted just this past summer and is gamely staying open year-round, has a Winter special.

$5 BREAKFAST COMBOS! - ALL COME WITH MEDIUM COFFEE AND JUICE

• Egg and Cheese on a roll – add bacon or sausage NO EXTRA!
• Breakfast Burrito – add bacon or sausage NO EXTRA!
• Juevos Rancheros
• Homemade Frittata and Hashbrown
• Any Flavor Bagel with Cream Cheese or Butter

Actually, it feels like winter in the cafe. You have to keep your coat and hat on to ward against the chill. But the food is hot and Rick has the homemade frittata with goat cheese and spinach and hashbrowns. How is it? I ask. "Compared to 7-Eleven," he says, "it's bliss." And, at $5, who needs fine china...or spell check.

There seems to be no end to the amount of sand being trucked in to restore the beaches, so there are as many bulldozers lumbering along on the road out here these days as there are cars. Passed this guy on our walk this morning, as well as...

our favorite pot-bellied pig, who also doesn't live life in the fast lane.

Porky belongs to the Hewitts, who own Shagwong...
but waddles down our street frequently.

Finally, a postscript to this week's post on fishing in winter. The EH Star did a piece on the Viking Fleet's excursions in this week's issue, and for all of you intrepid fishermen considering going out to sea, I thought I'd post this photo to show you what it's like out there. That would be, rough.

Off for some light entertainment...Zero Dark Thirty.  Enjoy the weekend...
